Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, née Sophie Helen Rhys-Jones, born 20 January 1965 in Oxford, is the wife of Prince Edward, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. She has been a member of the extended British Royal Family since her marriage on 19 June 1999 to Prince Edward at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Before her royal life, Sophie was a PR specialist with her own agency, which she departed to become a full-time royal in 2002. They have two children: Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James Mountbatten-Windsor, Earl of Wessex. On March 10, 2023, King Charles III conferred Prince Edward with the title of Duke of Edinburgh, hence renaming Sophie the Duchess of Edinburgh. Known for her charitable regard toward various causes, Sophie takes interest in only a few: people with disabilities, women’s rights, and fighting avoidable blindness. She is a patron to over 70 charities and other organizations; these exceed 200 engagements annually
