King Charles III is the current monarch of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms. He ascended the throne on September 8, 2022, upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.Charles was born on November 14, 1948, as the eldest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He became heir apparent at the age of 3 when his mother became queen in 1952.Prior to becoming king, Charles held the titles of Prince of Wales, Duke of Cornwall, and Duke of Rothesay. He was the longest-serving heir apparent in British history, having held the position for over 70 years.As Prince of Wales, Charles took on a wide range of official duties and charitable work. He is known for his advocacy on issues such as the environment, architecture, and urban planning. He has also been involved in various business ventures, including the Duchy Originals food company.Charles married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, and they had two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. The couple divorced in 1996, a year before Diana’s tragic death in a car accident in Paris.In 2005, Charles married his long-time partner, Camilla Parker Bowles, who is now known as Queen Camilla.At the age of 73, Charles became the oldest person to accede to the British throne.
